Intolerance

Nicodemo Ferrer – that ancient Commissioner – just condemned the Comelec and at least several million Filipinos to languish in the Dark Ages of intolerance for a little while longer.
The recent decision to disapprove the petition for accreditation of Ang Ladlad was couched in language so … so Catholic in its intolerance that I had to read it twice just to be sure I wasn’t hallucinating.
The decision’s argument is painfully simple (and by simple, I don’t mean just un-complicted. I mean retarded):
1. Gays are immoral and immoral people are a threat to the moral development of the youth;
2. Accrediting Ang Ladlad – which is immoral – will therefore be tantamount to exposing the youth to the danger of “moral and spiritual degeneration;”
and so therefore,
3. Since the Comelec is an agency of the government and the government has the constitutional mandate to protect the youth against moral and spiritual degeneracy; and the best way for the Comelec to obey that mandate is by refusing to accredit Ang Ladlad.
I see no clear causal link between accrediting Ang Ladlad and any sort of increase in the moral and spiritual degeneration of the youth nor, for that matter, any sort of increase in the erosion of the authority of the Catholic church. The youth are already too morally and spiritually degenerate for sexual lifestyle choices to make a significant difference, and no one believes in the Catholic church anymore anyway.

Look who’s talking? Comelec now becomes an authority on morality. That decision is soooo third world and soooo dumb! The whole world is talking about human rights and gender equality, and here in the Philippines they are singing a different tune: immorality!That makes me sick! If Comelec is a true advocate of morality, then why did it let corrupt politicians to run for office? A lot of these candidates just have the special skills to rob, to lie and all that jazz associated with their political positions.
In America, the Whitehouse have good legislators and responsible state leaders in the likes of Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin and Barney Frank of Massachusetts. And yes, they are gays and lesbians!
Danton has been a faculty of Ateneo De Manila for 22 years. He has been a great part of the intellectual development of so many youths at Ateneo. Not just the common youths,I tell you. The rich and famous youths! So, Danton being gay is then immoral. And these youths are now exposed to immorality that Ateneo tolerates? C’mon now! I can only think, after graduation some of these youths had joined the Comelec, some of them joined the powers that be in Malacanang and some of them are scattered around in various political parties. Therefore, immorality is everywhere! Hahaha! Now that makes sense to me.
It’s unbelievable that the grounds for disqualification were based on biblical premise and inquisitorial jurisprudence. Ang Ladlad must escalate its case to the SC; otherwise, all party-list groups now face the same life-and-death criteria.
damn. these lawyers.
oh, and apparently nicodemo is an “Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister, Our Lady of the Purification Parish, Binmaley, Pangasinan”. lol.
on intolerance– i wonder if the church will ever move even beyond tolerance towards acceptance. that would take extraordinary church leaders i suppose
